DISARM - a new H2020 thematic network collaboration to reduce antibiotic resistance

Disarm-LogoDISARM- (Disseminating Innovative Solutions for Antibiotic Resistance Management), is a collaboration between farmers, veterinarians, advisory services, academics, and industry to stimulate and establish a more prudent and responsible use of antibiotics in livestock production, with the aim to alleviate the threat of antibiotic resistance. Launched in January 2019, it will continue through December 2021 establishing a community and disseminating effective practices and approaches.

Latvian Academy of Sciences Grand Medals awarded to Baiba Rivža

This year the Latvian Academy of Sciences Grand Medal - the highest award awarded to Latvian and overseas scientists for outstanding creative achievement - was Professor Baiba Rivža was rewarded for significant contribution to the research into the rural and regional development of Latvia. Recipients of the award received the cast bronze Grand Medal and a cash prize, which are funded by the Boris and Ināra Teterev Foundation.

Latvian Academy of Agricultural and Forestry Sciences (LAAFS) participated in International Conference ERA NET Project Sumforest in Barcelona

On October 19 the LLMZA President prof. Baiba Rivža participated in International Conference ERA NET project Sumforest in Barsalona ''Bridging research, policy and practice for sustainable forest management''. Prof. B. Rivža participated in the Strategic working group SCAR on the future of research and innovation in the forestry sector.

LATVIAN ACADEMY OF AGRICULTURAL AND FORESTRY SCIENCES (LAAFS) congratulates the "Sower 2017" laureates

On Friday ,October 13, in Cultural Palace "Ziemeļblāzma", the Agriculture Minister Jānis Dūklavs and senior officials of the country welcomed the "Sower 2017" winners and promotion prize receivers from beneficiaries - farmers, including young farmers, food producers, as well as scientists.

LAAFS PARTICIPATION FIELD TRIALS AND LABORATORY EXPERIMENT EVENTS

Every year in the summer moths LAAFS participates in field trials and laboratory experiment events, in which the scientific institutions of agriculture and forest science throughout Latvia are surveyed. During this time LAAFS representatives, along with colleagues from the scientific institutes, listen to reports from research institutions on the progress made during the reporting period and on future plans. During the event, technical facilities of scientific institutions are presented along with experimental laboratories and fields. During its operating time LAAFS has established close cooperation whit the scientific institutions of  Latvia Univesity of Agriculture (LUA), for example Institute of Soil And Plant Science; Latvian Plant Protection Research Centre etc., as well as with other scientific institutions, e.g. Horticultural Research Centre Pūre; State Stende Cereal Breeding Institute; Priekuli Plant Breeding Institute; Institute of Horticulture; Latvian State Forest Research Institute "Silava"; Institute of Food Safety, Animal Health and Environment "BIOR"; which regularly participate in these trial events.
